SEO Tip #2 for Onsite Web Development: Search Engine Indexing Limits

Posted by Analytics Reporter on May 16, 2011 - 1:53 pm

The onsite web development SEO tip brought to you by SeeVolution applies to all newly created websites as well as all websites that do not have significant authority within their market.  Today we will discuss Google and other search engine indexing limits.

Many times web developers have no idea that Google and other SERPS place indexing limits on websites, or they only know the basic’s such as having no more than 70 characters in the title tag and no more than 155 characters in the meta description.  There are several more indexing limits that you need to be aware of when creating your website.

When developing a website, make sure that each page file size is less than 150 kilobytes.  This is before images, CSS and any other attachments to your website.  If the page is larger than 150 kilobytes Google and the other SERPS will run into problems when crawling your website.  There must also be no more than 100 unique links per page on your website.

Two other onsite web development indexing limits you must be aware of include having no more than 2 parameters in your URL’s as well as having the depth of the URL never surpass 4 backslashes.  A good example of this can be seen at http://www.seevolution.com/how_it_works.
